History

Nippon Express Co Ltd is a forwarding and logistics company specializing in global sea and air cargo transport.

Nippon Express was established in 1937 in accordance with Japanese Tsu-un Kaisha legislation as a semi-state transport company after the amalgamation of Kokusai Tsu-un KK (International Express Co Ltd), which consolidated many of the nation's small-scale rail transport companies, and six other former competitors, with additional funding from the Japanese government. During World War II, the need for a centralized approach to transport in Japan became more urgent resulting in the government combining those transportation companies operating in all of the nation's major cities into what would later become Nippon Express. In 1950, after the passing of the Express Business and Commercial Law Acts, the Company was relaunched as a private concern since which time Nippon Express has expanded and developed in parallel with the wider Japanese economy.

Since we opened our first overseas office in New York in 1958, the Nippon Express global network has spread to over 730 locations in 49 countries with 73,482 personnel supporting our customers’ daily business requirements.
