Regulation No. 297/2011

The EU has adopted the attached regulation No. 297/2011 as an emergency measure. Thereafter, checks on imports of food and animal feed from Japan are significantly reinforced. Food of twelve prefectures are subject to special inspection. The tests for radioactivity have been made in Japan itself. Of the outcome a written explanation is required. This statement is attached to the Regulation. Two days before the arrival of a shipment in Europe, the authorities of the respective countries have to be informed. In addition, there should be further checks in Europe. Food from the other 35 prefectures of Japan will also be part controlled in the Member States of the EU. Not affected are only products that were made prior to 11 March 2011.
